Clay portrait - 2021

‘Clay portrait’, demonstrated a new departure from my previous fashion-focused portraits.
Inspired by Clare Brice Betts' ‘Model head’ – 1985, painted with a wash of dripped acrylic and charcoal on lining paper.
The distinctive contrast of the square brush marks and charcoal drawing in ‘Clay portrait’, complement each other, and the bold shapes define the face.
She is not a fashion face, but I have been influenced by the sculptural effect of Clare Brice Betts' painting ‘Model head’.
