Context
  • ‘All in white’ is an impression of a curled-up female figure.
Soft light and unpainted areas describe the body folding into itself, as though hiding. The multitude of yellow greys and dusty, white blues, suggest a three-dimensional figure cast on stone. The proportions of the figure were accidental, reminding me of Louise Bourgeois' fabric sculptures. Unlike other female figures in the exhibition. The bold white shapes, applied with a square brush and soft sponge echo my response to Bourgeois' figures. ‘All in white’ was painted after vising an exhibition of Louise Bourgeois, at the Hayward Gallery in London. I was drawn to her artwork Titled - ‘High Heels‘– 1998, Fabric and steel figure. Where she portrays a submissive woman, representing desire and sexuality. My painting ‘All in white’ is evocative of a foetus in the mother’s womb and could be a depiction of the life cycle of a woman.
