‘Movement in the mirror’ Cool blues and greens outline this moving female figure as she adjusts her position in the mirror.
Her body is out of focus and abstract, her long limbs painted with many continuous marks, she feels slightly vulnerable yet hides her face as she looks to the floor.
My painting entitled ‘Movement in the mirror’ was inspired by multiple female artists who have influenced both my drawing and painting.
For example, whilst looking at Jenny Saville’s drawings of 'moving and interlocking bodies’, I was compelled to extract what I could see of myself in a cross-legged position. Taking the idea of movement, I positioned my figure in a haze of blurred greens and blues. This was an intuitive response to Saville’s portrayal of her own body. -
